CFP TRAMA CONFERENCE FICTION AND TOURISM

TRAMA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE  "FICTION AND TOURISM" - Call for papers

The cultural and tourism industries are experiencing an increasing convergence of interests. Tourism managers are turning to fictional content as an ally in the promotion of their destination and its cultural and natural heritage. The capacity of television series, films, literature, and video games to induce tourism is informing destination marketing strategies. The interest in the imaginaries created by popular fiction can help both to deseasonalize or redirect visitor flows and to put destinations that previously attracted little attention on the tourist map.

Topics

The relationship between fiction and tourism is a very active field of research. With this in mind, the second edition of the TRAMA Conference, under the title “Fiction and Tourism,” invites researchers to submit papers of an analytical, theoretical, or methodological nature that address any of the following topics:

  • Effects of fiction on the perceived image of destinations, motivations, and intentions to visit
  • Effects of fiction on tourist experiences
  • Projected image of tourist destinations in film, television, literature, video games, etc.
  • Tourism induced by fiction: the placement of natural and cultural heritage in fiction
  • Representation of tourism and tourists in fiction
  • Stereotypes, tourism, and fiction
  • Fans and media pilgrimages
  • Common ground between the tourism and audiovisual industries: film commissions and destination marketing organizations
  • Typologies of film, television, literature, video games… tourism
  • Literary-audiovisual fiction and tourism
  • Effects of fiction on destinations
  • Research methods in film, television, literature, video games... tourism
  • Media celebrities and tourism promotion
  • Beyond fiction: travel, virtual reality, and tourism docudrama

Imagining Tourists and Tourism Conference Paris

Imagining Tourists and Tourism Conference - Paris 19-21 June 2024 Aims of the Conference The conference aims to explore the links between tourism and fiction, and more precisely to consider tourism and tourists as fictions. It is part of a series of conferences organized since 2011 by researchers from the Universities of Geneva, Panthéon-Sorbonne and Berkeley to explore the links between tourism and the imaginary. The first four meetings had evoked how tourism mobilized imaginaries specific to destination countries, their landscapes, their cultures and their inhabitants. The fifth conference will focus on the imaginary that applies to tourists themselves. Imaginary tourists We will examine how the various actors of tourism, as well as the places and practices of tourism, appear in works of fiction. Literature, cinema, theater, song, advertising, etc., stage tourist configurations, which are sometimes at the very heart of these fictions.  Fictional tourists include those invent...

TRAVEL WRITING AS AN INSTRUMENT OF CULTURAL HERITAGE PROMOTION

TRAVEL WRITING AS AN INSTRUMENT OF CULTURAL HERITAGE PROMOTION This study contributes to the research literature through its approach to equipping tourism content creatives who are entering the professions of destination image communication with platform expertise alongside cooperation and co-creation leadership. Productive skills for travel writers and social media content producers in tourism are significant in the co-creation of sustainable tourist experiences since they are interactive and participative. The two purposes of this study are to implement and improve the dialogue journaling process as a re-usable methodology. The new 3-step processual research methodology is explained through a case study with stakeholders and project leaders in Brežice, Slovenia. The paper contributes to pragmatic tourism management concerns and practice by reporting findings from a real-world process project on cultural heritage that provides a re-usable solution.
