AMSTERDAM

AMSTERDAM

This project was to design and deliver a Guided Walk in a new area of Amsterdam. The location chosen starts on Waterlooplein because it has a tram and bus link close to a major visitor site, the Stopera Opera House & Town Hall. The walk route uses my ellipse concept with six plateaux or points of interest. The route returns you to where you started from so that you can easily find public transport again. You can chose to follow the guided walk route in one of three ways: "Said, Led or Read".

A) Said - will use the 6 audio files shown in the Google Drive frame below on this web-page. They are numbered 1 to 6 to help you find the correct one at each stop, or plateau, as I call them. To avoid roaming charges on your 'phone you should ensure you have installed the 2 Apps for Google Docs and Google Drive when you have a good Wifi signal. At the same time, please find all my files for the Guided Walk in Google Drive and set them to  Available offline.

B) Led - follow the Tour Group Leader, in a group of 12 maximum. The group size in busy urban areas is important; more than 12 can be a risk and often those at the back cannot hear the tour guide speak.

C) Read - will use the long Ramble Strip shown in the Google Drive frame below on this web-page. All six plateaux are in the one Google Document, so you scroll down to find the correct one at each stop, or plateau, as I call them. Do take great care when reading from your 'phone out in the street. Always stop. Stand with your back to a wall so that no traffic is behind you. Take a deep breath. Look around for other potential risks. Then read calmly, glancing up from time to time.

Alternatively, if you are with a friend, take it in turns to read the six commentary scripts from the Google Document. But stop. And stay safe.

Below you will find a Podcast for each Plateau - please be sure to save them offline to your 'phone...

Imagining Tourists and Tourism Conference Paris

Imagining Tourists and Tourism Conference - Paris 19-21 June 2024 Aims of the Conference The conference aims to explore the links between tourism and fiction, and more precisely to consider tourism and tourists as fictions. It is part of a series of conferences organized since 2011 by researchers from the Universities of Geneva, Panthéon-Sorbonne and Berkeley to explore the links between tourism and the imaginary. The first four meetings had evoked how tourism mobilized imaginaries specific to destination countries, their landscapes, their cultures and their inhabitants. The fifth conference will focus on the imaginary that applies to tourists themselves. Imaginary tourists We will examine how the various actors of tourism, as well as the places and practices of tourism, appear in works of fiction. Literature, cinema, theater, song, advertising, etc., stage tourist configurations, which are sometimes at the very heart of these fictions.  Fictional tourists include those invent...

TRAVEL WRITING AS AN INSTRUMENT OF CULTURAL HERITAGE PROMOTION

TRAVEL WRITING AS AN INSTRUMENT OF CULTURAL HERITAGE PROMOTION This study contributes to the research literature through its approach to equipping tourism content creatives who are entering the professions of destination image communication with platform expertise alongside cooperation and co-creation leadership. Productive skills for travel writers and social media content producers in tourism are significant in the co-creation of sustainable tourist experiences since they are interactive and participative. The two purposes of this study are to implement and improve the dialogue journaling process as a re-usable methodology. The new 3-step processual research methodology is explained through a case study with stakeholders and project leaders in Brežice, Slovenia. The paper contributes to pragmatic tourism management concerns and practice by reporting findings from a real-world process project on cultural heritage that provides a re-usable solution.
